Reading, UK, 13th October 2008: Numara Software, Inc., a leader in service desk management solutions, announced today that Metsec plc, the UK’s largest specialist cold roll steel-forming company, has taken the decision to deploy Numara Footprints.
The contract was secured in July 2008, and the software will be rolled out throughout Metsec during October. The software will support 250 PC users at Metsec’s Oldbury and Coventry sites in the West Midlands.
Norman Woodward, Group IT Manager at Metsec explained that the company first considered moving to Numara FootPrints a year ago as part of a move to upgrade the service management capabilities of its service desk.
“. What we were particularly interested in was a solution that would offer us remote-working, change management, and asset management capabilities. We wanted to use something robust to help us improve the service management process and after considering what was available in the marketplace, we found that Numara FootPrints met our requirements better than any other product.
When we looked at the alternatives available in the marketplace, we realised that we didn’t want something that was overly complicated and potentially difficult to manage. What Metsec required was a solution that had the capabilities we were looking for but was also both easy to understand for the user and not too labour intensive to implement. Numara FootPrints offers us a clean sheet of paper that fits in with Metsec’s future business needs,” continued Woodward.
Metsec’s IT systems manager Carl Ainge says the change management and Web-based facilities offered by Numara FootPrints were key criteria behind the choice of the new software.
“We need to be able to log all calls and track both the services management and change management processes. Our engineers also want to be able to pick up their calls on site easily. We are seeing more system and process changes and we need to be able to tell the business what we’re doing. A typical example is that we’d be out fixing something in the field, and the user would say, ‘And while you’re here, could you just do this for us?’
Most of the business’s systems are packaged systems, but some have also been modified. We want help to enable us to track these changes and devise release programmes so that changed systems don’t go into a live environment until they’re ready. We also need to be able to track any trends and present back to the business things that constantly need fixing,” said Ainge.
One of the key areas that Metsec is keen to address in future is adoption of the ITIL service management framework that is supported by Numara FootPrints. Like many organisations, Metsec faces service management challenges including an increased volume and complexity of IT support requests as well as a need to integrate business and IT processes.
“ITIL is a guideline for service management that we are moving towards. We have already been looking at ITIL version 3, so Numara FootPrints’ ITIL enablement capabilities are certainly attractive to us,” said Woodward.
