Full Testing Solution to improve eBusiness Domain

The client, a leading retail organization with thousands of branches throughout the UK, needed to enhance the functionality to their ecommerce system, which could be integrated into the supporting technologies and infrastructure. This ecommerce solution encompassed all the 3 business units and was expected to grow to an estimated $80 billion by 2010 - representing around 15% of its overall retail sales.

Attaining the required estimation led to a significant risk, and to mitigate this risk, a rigorous testing approach was needed. AppLabs, acclaimed as an independent software testing company, already engaged with the client to deliver a managed service for performance testing, took up the task.

The team of AppLabs implemented the key aspect of the solution, the AppLabs Delivery Method, a formal approach to testing projects, which assures consistently high levels of delivery. With this testing was better prepared, with less time constraints towards the tail end of a project. AppLabs conducted the automated functional testing, ensuring minimized vulnerabilities without a duplication of effort. In addition to this, AppLabs conducted the automated regression testing for all 41 applications on the portal using HP Mercury’s QTP.

The majority of the applications undergoing performance testing are deemed ‘business critical’ as the projects cannot move forward until performance continuity of them is proven. AppLabs developed the test scripts for all of these applications, using HP’s Loadrunner. As per the change in the application or the profile of the users, the test scripts were modified and maintained. AppLabs liaised with the business and technical teams to resolve any issues.

Since AppLabs has been involved in the e-business initiative, there is an independent quality assurance that every application released or changed will not have a negative effect on the portal. By working together with the IT team and 3rd party developers, AppLabs has closed the gap between system testing and UAT for new applications/projects. AppLabs has ensured that the system meets the business requirements and that the new applications fit with the existing applications.
